COMMUNITY RECYCLE CENTER:
The Community Recycle Center is located at 1000 East Sand Flats Road in Moab Utah. The phone number is (435) 259-8640 OR (435) 259-3867. The center is open Monday-Saturday 8:00am to 5:00pm and closed on federal holidays and July 24th for Pioneer Day (see the home page for a list of observed holidays). The recycling center was created in 1991 by a non-profit group known as Canyonlands Community Recycling. This wonderful group brought recycling to life in Moab Utah. Their hard work and dedication to the environment has made recycling a household word in Moab. In July of 2010, Canyonlands Community Recycling transferred the management and operation of the center to the Solid Waste SSD#1 so that they could pursue the goal of furthering education and recycling in the community

The Solid Waste SSD#1 has picked up the reins of this operation and is committed to continuing, promoting and expanding recycling in Moab. At the Community Recycle Center, the District accepts a variety of recycling products and processes them for shipping to United States processing plants. The public and contractors drop off recyclables for free. Product is stored in a staging area until enough is accumulated for processing into bales. A pricing and shipping contract is then negotiated. A primary goal of the District is to ensure that the Community Recycle Center is supported as much as possible by the sale of products. When the prices are not favorable, products may be stored on site. On temporary basis, glass may be crushed and used in intermediate cover or incorporated into roads at the Moab Landfill. This practice saves the District the cost of buying cover soil.
A key District goal is to encourage the saving of resources by increasing the materials diverted from the waste stream: Within five years, the District seeks to divert from 7% to 15% of waste produced that currently goes to the landfills. A long-term goal is to increase recycling to maximum potential. As the District works through it's action planning process, the District will develop a method to determine the "real dollar" cost savings projection and will report this finding in it's annual report to the community. (See Management Plan page for further information).
The Community Recycle Center currently accepts the following materials:
Corregated Cardboard. This is a line of baled cardboard ready to be shipped to market.
#2 Colored Plastics
Please remove caps and rinse containers. This includes automobile fluid bottles, bleach jugs, laundry soap, and coffee ground containers.
Clear Glass

Brown and Green Glass. Currently, glass is being transported to the Moab Landfill where it is crushed and used in place of dirt for the intermediate covers. This practice saves the District from being forced to buy dirt to complete intermediate covers. The District is continuing to search for markets that will buy the glass for recycling into various products.
Bob's Sanitation collectes cardboard from commercial entities and brings the load to the Community Recycle Center. You can contact Bob's Sanitation at 259-6314. Green Solutions offers a residential curbside recycling pick up service and brings the products to the Community Recycle Center. Green Solutions can be reached at (435)259-1088 or colin_topper@yahoo.com. Informational websites:

A special thanks to the wonderful Wednesday Recycle Club folks. These wonderful people volunteer their precious time on Wednesdays to sort bags of trash for recycling. In the heat of the summer or the cold of the winter, these club members come to the center to sort bags of trash to put recyclable products in the proper bins and that is a great help to the employees of the District. So, to Carol, Sara, Jean and all the rest of the Wednesday Recycle Club-- A big THANK YOU!!!
